Patricia Iyer, MSN, RN, LNCC, earned her Bachelor
of Science in Nursing and Masters of Science in Nursing from
University of Pennsylvania. She has earned the certification
of Legal Nurse Consultant Certified. Patricia served for five
years on the Board of Directors of the American Association
of Legal Nurse Consultants, including one year as the President
from 2002-2003. Additionally she was the first chair of the
Educational Steering Committee (for a term of two years) and
received the distinguished Lifetime
Achievement Service Award from AALNC in 2005. Patricia
has edited or coauthored numerous books for nurses and attorneys,
including Medical Legal
Aspects of Pain and Suffering, Nursing
Home Litigation: Investigation and Case Preparation,
Nursing Malpractice,
and Nursing Documentation:
A Nursing Process Approach. Patricia is president
of Med League Support Services, Inc., a legal nurse consulting
company in Flemington, NJ which was established in 1989. She
has taught hundreds of attorneys and paralegals about medical
records and medical legal topics, and thousands of nurses
about nursing documentation and risk management.
Barbara
Levin, BSN, RN, ONC, LNCC obtained her Bachelor of
Science in Nursing from Boston University School of Nursing.
She is also a certified orthopaedic nurse and has received
the recognition of Advanced Clinician at Massachusetts General
Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts where she works in the orthopaedic/trauma
unit. Barbara draws on a wealth of 21 years of nursing experience
in a myriad of clinical settings, Barbara is an accomplished
speaker and writer, and also works with other providers at
facilities and organizations to redesign policies and procedures.
In addition to her clinical activities, Barbara is an experienced
legal nurse consultant providing an educational foundation
for her clients in a variety of roles. She has earned the
distinction of Legal Nurse Consultant Certified and served
as the President of the American Association of Legal Nurse
Consultants 2004-2005. Barbara also serves as a valued member
of the Massachusetts Tribunal, working together with a judge
and an attorney, to determine the direction of medical malpractice
claims.
Mary
Ann Shea, JD, BS, RN earned her Juris Doctor from
St. Louis University School of Law, and her Bachelor of Science
in Psychology and Associate of Arts in Nursing from Maryville
University. She molded her dual law and nursing expertise
into the medical/legal arena by practicing in both plaintiff
and defense personal injury law firms, serving as a Director
of Quality Assurance and Risk Management, being an independent
medical/legal consultant on hundreds of cases involving medical
analysis, teaching legal nurse consulting courses, as well
as presenting hundreds of risk management seminars to medical,
legal and nursing professionals nationwide. Mary Ann is the
author of Documentation Through the Attorney's Eyes
and has been a contributing author in several textbooks, has
written informational articles in nursing publications, and
has been quoted in medical and legal publications. She is
a member of the Missouri Bar, is active on the Solo and Small
Firm Practice Committee, and serves as an active member of
the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. Mary Ann also
served as President of the American Association of Legal Nurse
Consultants from 2003 to 2004 and continues to provide leadership
and professional direction to many of AALNC’s chapters
and members.
