Extracted from Patricia Karalow, “Technology and the Office” in Patricia Iyer (Editor) Business Principles for Legal Nurse Consultants, CRC Press

To successfully operate a consulting practice, the legal nurse consultant (LNC)—or attorney—must take full advantage of the available technology regardless of the current level of knowledge and comfort level with the technology. The LNC must be proficient in applying technology tools in the administration of daily business to establish a best outcomes competitive practice that produces superior work product within the framework of the legal nurse consultant’s business plan.

To achieve these goals, the LNC will need to implement the use of technology to successfully gather the information that is presented in various forms, manipulate (edit) the information, and organize it into readily retrievable formats. The LNC will then need to organize the information into user-friendly formats that are ready for dissemination to the business client in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The files will need to be maintained in an organized system of work processes in the office environment.
